Sunningdale, Bradford (near Lister Park)
Sunningdale provides care for residents who have Dementia or other Mental-Health-related illness.
It provides for the highest levels of care, with staff trained and experienced in dealing with individuals whose behaviour (due to their illness) requires specialist care and a safe environment.
The accommodation, the former residence of the Lord Mayor, is comfortable, varied and safe.
The gardens are freely available to our residents at all times, as we have electronic gates with a CCTV camera to enable us to monitor the gates. Residents are able to access the outside at will.
Often with the illness of Dementia comes the need in the resident to wander or, indeed, wanting to get out of the building. This is possible because the door is open. This avoids a large amount of frustration on the residents' behalf, as no one is telling them that they cannot go out.
After only a short time at Sunningdale, the vast majority of new residents become contented and and much more relaxed, as they become accustomed to the home.
The home has regular visits from hairdressers, chiropodists, opticians, and health professionals.
Medical cover is provided by local GPs, along with District Nurses and a Community Psychiatric team. We are not a nursing home; in the event of serious illness, admission to hospital is normal policy.
There is no set bed time or rising time. Residents may retire to bed when they are ready to do so.
We are an equal-opportunities carer and employer. We offer all residents (irrespective of physical, psychological and cultural needs) the fullest care possible, to maintain a reasonable quality of life, whilst encouraging self-help to maintain self-care.
Our overwhelming aim and objective is to provide "A Home" where the residents' physical, mental and spiritual needs are met to the highest degree.
